About Dr Risako:

Dr Risako is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist dedicated to delivering personalised, patient-centred care for women at every stage of life. She prioritises clear communication and empowers her patients to make informed decisions about their health.

Trained & qualified in both Australia and Japan, she has extensive experience in complex obstetric and gynaecological care, including minimally invasive surgery and high-risk pregnancies. She previously worked as a consultant at a leading university hospital in Tokyo, holds a PhD in medical research, and has published multiple scientific papers internationally.

Since relocating to Australia, Dr Risako has completed advanced training in Melbourne and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). She currently practices publicly at Eastern Health, providing comprehensive care in general obstetrics and gynaecology, where she also teaches and supervises junior doctors. In private practice, she consults at Clynden Ave Specialist Centre, Malvern East.

Her dual international training brings a globally informed perspective to women’s healthcare. Her clinical care spans all areas of general gynaecology, including menstrual and hormonal disorders, contraception, menopause, cervical screening and colposcopy, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and minimally invasive surgery.

Conditions & Treatments

    • Recommended every 5 years for women with a cervix, aged 25 to 74 who have every been sexually active.

    • Screening checks for HPV (human papillomavirus), a very common virus that can sometimes cause changes in the cells of the cervix.

    • If result is normal, your next test will be in 5 years.

    If HPV is found, you may need further tests including a colposcopy, which is an examination of the cervix.

    • Aimed at optimising your health before conception and reducing risks for both you and your baby.

    • A review of your medical history - high-dose folic acid, aspirin, or progesterone may be recommended in some cases.

    • Cervical screening test and vaccination review.

    • Blood tests to check immunity to infections such as chickenpox, toxoplasmosis, CMV, parvovirus, and other blood-borne viruses.

    • Genetic carrier screening.

    • Advice on food safety in pregnancy, CMV caution.

    • Combined oral contraceptives

    • Progesterone-only pill

    • Hormonal contraceptive injection

    • Implanon (subcutaneous implant)

    • Mirena / Kyleena (intrauterine device)

    • Sterilisation surgery (laparoscopy)

    • Bacterial Vaginosis

    • Candidiasis

    • Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma genitalium, Trichomoniasis

    • Genital warts

    • Polyps

    • Fibroids

    • Ovarian tumors

  • Biopsy of the lining of the uterus may be recommended based on ultrasound findings and risk factors for uterine cancer.
